Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson was gracious enough to fit us into his busy schedule last week to help with our St. Jude radiothon and lend his support.

Mayor Robertson and I talked a lot about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the various ways they aid children with cancer -- from research to treatment protocols.

I was able to educate Mayor Robertson about what exactly they do and the huge role they play in saving lives. He was genuinely impressed by all that they do and agreed to help us raise awareness for our St. Jude radiothon by shooting a video.

Now, I've had interviews with the powers that be years ago at City Hall under a different mayor. But this visit was so different. There was no pomp and circumstance, no haughty attitude. Just an office that was completely organized and on point, but sweet, genuine and down to earth.

From the receptionist at the front to Mayor Robertson's secretary Celia to Mayor Robertson himself. And if you didn't already know, Mayor Robertson is intelligent, generous and funny. They all made us feel at ease and welcome.

Thank you all again for representing our city in such a wonderful way.

Pro tip: If you're ever in the Mayor's Office at City Hall, be sure to check out the pictures on the reception area walls featuring photos of West Texas sunrises and sunsets.  Breathtaking!
