As Mother’s Day approaches on May 11th, families across Lubbock are browsing for the perfect bouquet or making brunch reservations. But if you ask the moms themselves? Forget the flowers—just let them sleep!

The Survey

A new national survey confirms what Lubbock moms have known all along: The greatest Mother’s Day gift is a break. A real one. One where nobody asks where the socks are, no one needs a ride to practice, and dinner magically appears without Mom doing a thing.

In fact, 94% of moms say they just want more sleep—and nearly half agree that “a nap with no one needing you” is the ultimate luxury. Lubbock mom of three, Jessica Moreno, said it best:

“Honestly, just one hour where no one says ‘Mom!’ and I don’t have to reheat my coffee six times... that’s heaven.”

What Else Does She Want?

Other “dream luxuries” for moms include eating a meal while it’s still hot, going a day without making a single decision, and yes—a solo bathroom break. You laugh, but ask any mom and she’ll tell you that’s a real thing!

Almost two-thirds of moms say they haven’t had a nap in the past month, and one in four can’t remember the last time they rested during the day at all. So, if you’re scrambling to find the right gift—slow down. Literally.

What Can YOU Do For Mom?

This year, Lubbock dads should consider taking the kids out for a few hours. Or take over the laundry, dishes, and dinner so Mom can watch her show on her time—without sharing the remote.

Sure, flowers are nice. Dinner out is appreciated. And handmade cards from the kids will always bring a tear. But if you really want to say “thank you,” give her the greatest gift of all: a nap and a day off.

I promise—she’ll remember it longer than that scented candle
