The next step in the investigation into the Chad Read shooting death case happened on Tuesday, November 17th. The Lubbock Police Department has officially turned over their findings to the Texas Attorney General's Office.

The Texas Attorney General's Office is taking the place of the Lubbock County District Attorney's Office in the legal process. That's after the Lubbock District Attorney Sunshine Stanek officially recused her office from the investigation last week.

Lubbock Police provided a timeline to their investigative process on Tuesday:

Police officers were called out to the 2100 block of 90th Street around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, November 5th after a report of shots fired. The investigation into the shooting death of Chad Read was started by LPD's Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit by 4:45 p.m. on Friday, November 5th. The 54-year-old Read was found dead at the scene of the shooting.

LPD then said that METRO investigators conducted witness interviews and gathered evidence from November 5th-10th.

The Lubbock Police Department said it was notified on November 10th that the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office officially recused itself and the case was assigned to a prosecutor from the Texas Attorney General’s Office.

After the recusal, LPD's METRO investigators reviewed all associated information and requested follow-up interviews between November 11th and November 15th.

Finally, the METRO Unit transferred the case files over to the Attorney General’s office on Tuesday, November 16th to allow the office to begin their review process of the case following the recusal of the Lubbock County District Attorney’s office.

No timeline has been given concerning how long the Texas Attorney General's Office review will take.
