Lubbock Pride: Cheering on the Texas Tech Lady Raiders in National Final
It’s not every day that our West Texas athletes get recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, but that’s exactly what happened this week.
Even Politicians Are Talking About it!
Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) took to the House floor in Washington to give a huge shoutout to the Texas Tech Lady Raiders softball team, and honestly, it got us fired up. Here’s what he said:
“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize a group of remarkable young women from the plains of West Texas who are making history on the national stage – our Texas Tech Lady Raiders softball team.
These athletes have battled all season long with an impressive drive, determination, and an unmistakable West Texas will to win… Know this, Lady Raiders – all of West Texas and all of Red Raider Nation are cheering on our ‘Fearless Champions’ as you ‘fight for the Scarlet and the Black.’ Now, go out there tonight – all gas and no brakes – beat those Texas Longhorns and then turn around and beat them again, and bring that championship trophy home to Lubbock, Texas where it belongs.”

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders softball team is set to make history tonight as they compete in Game 3 of the Women's College World Series (WCWS) Finals against the Texas Longhorns. The decisive game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Devon Park in Oklahoma City and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Winner Takes All
After a narrow 2-1 loss in Game 1, the Lady Raiders bounced back in Game 2 with a 4-3 victory, forcing this winner-take-all matchup. Star pitcher NiJaree Canady has been instrumental throughout the postseason, delivering her eighth complete game in as many starts and maintaining a remarkable 0.97 ERA.
Texas Tech's offense capitalized on Texas's errors in Game 2, scoring twice in both the fifth and sixth innings. Despite a late rally by the Longhorns, Canady secured the win by striking out Kayden Henry with the tying run on third base.
Making History
This season marks a significant milestone for the Lady Raiders, as they clinched their first Big 12 regular-season title in program history. With a 54-13 overall record, the team has shown serious resilience and determination under the leadership of Coach Gerry Glasco.
