It's been a minute since Stein Mart announced that they were packing it in and closing their stores nationwide, including the one in Lubbock.

Since that fateful August day in 2020, the location at 7020 Quaker Ave. has sat empty, with no sign of any real development or promise that much of anything could wind up in that cavernous space anytime soon.

Now, directly across the street sits the empty Spears furniture location, which is being repurposed as a new Miller Waldrop Furniture location, so it's not like they can't find anyone to move into the area.

That being said, we may have a solution for the Stein Mart location that fits squarely in line with our civic and moral leanings.

You guessed it. MEGACHURCH!

There may be no shortage of houses of worship here on the South Plains, but one that also has convenient freeway access and is in close proximity to a TJ Maxx is a win-win for Lubbock. The Stein Mart location would be perfect for a new super-congregation.

This also opens up many more possibilities. With a vast number of empty Stein Mart locations available, whomever develops this empty retail shell into a strip mall sanctuary, could ultimately spread the Good News all over this great state, not unlike another chain that is ubiquitous in the Lone Star State.

Think about it. It could happen, but probably won't for good reason.

And forgive the lousy Photoshop job. It's obviously nothing that anyone should take seriously. But, yes, a church would definitely work in that location.
