Lubbock’s Pita Pit Is Closing After August 31st

Lubbock's Pita Pit (5707 4th Street) is closing permanently on August 31st, 2020.

This unique sandwich shop made the announcement on the Pita Pit Lubbock Facebook page, along with saying "thank you Lubbock & to all our great customers over the years."

Online ordering is still available, as is takeout.

We stopped by Pita Pit and asked the owner, Max Bhakta, about the closing. His answer surprised us. Apparently, the lease is up this month, and Bhakta has been looking to get out of the business since early this year. The coronavirus pandemic threw a monkey wrench into those plans.

Bhakta told us that while the pandemic affected his prospects of selling the location, business itself was doing alright following the spring shutdown in Lubbock. He said he's planning to move at some point, and wants to continue to cook.

It's deeply unfortunate to hear all the same, as Pita Pit's meals are delicious. It's one of the few restaurants in town that could cater to specialty diets like veganism, gluten-free, etc. The portions were generous for the price, and the selection was amazing. If I lived anywhere near their location, I would have likely eaten there weekly.

There's been a swath of closures of all types of businesses, especially restaurants, in Lubbock during the COVID-19 pandemic. I know I'm having to pull back on my spending and eat more and more hotdogs at home. It's depressing.
