M. Night Shyamalan’s Split was a welcome surprise at the movie theater this year for two reasons: the first being (spoiler alert) it’s actually set in the same universe as Shyamalan’s fantastic superhero movie Unbreakable, and the second being that it was made on a crazy-low budget. $9 million became $275 million at the box office, paving the road to a sequel, titled Glass, which was announced by Universal last month. M. Night Shyamalan is back, baby!

Producer Jason Blum recently spoke with Collider about the sequel/trilogy, and confirmed that Glass will have a considerably larger budget than Split did.

The budget is more traditional, still by Hollywood standards a very low budget, but it is not $5 million.

That’s probably on account of Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson returning to their Unbreakable roles and pulling in a ton of star power. They, along with James McAvoy and the fabulous Anya Taylor-Joy, definitely justify a larger budget. As for when they’ll get started, Blum hasn’t seen the script Shyamalan is working on yet, but he hopes to be in production within the year.

We hope so, I hope so. We have a release date in January of 2019, so we have to start shooting pretty soon.

Glass is set to hit theaters January 18, 2019.
