A man from Arizona has been arrested after reports say he tried to run National Guard soldiers off the road near Idalou, Texas and pointed a loaded gun at them.

KAMC News reports that 66-year-old Larry Lee Harris of Wilcox, Arizona was following 3 vans that were transporting COVID-19 vaccines to Matador, Texas. These vans were carrying National Guard soldiers.

Harris admitted later to police that he thought the people in the vans had "kidnapped a woman and child," so he attempted to run the vans off the road multiple times, even driving into oncoming traffic and eventually stopping the vans. Harris had apparently followed the vans from East Regis Street to Highway 62/82 and County Road 3600.

After the vans were stopped, reports say that Harris pointed a loaded Colt 1911 pistol at a National Guard soldiers and said that he was a detective. Harris ordered the unarmed men out of the vehicles and demanded to search them. No one ended up being injured in this incident, and Harris was taken into custody without further incident.

Idalou Police said in a statement:

Harris appeared to be mentally disturbed. This was a very dangerous situation since the suspect was standing in the midst of the unarmed Guardsman with a loaded weapon.

Harris remains booked in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, impersonation of a public servant, interfering with Texas military forces, unlawful carrying of a weapon and unlawful restraint.
