In 2015 and 2016 Patrick Mahomes and the Red Raiders offense averaged over 40 points per game and absolutely dominated Big 12 defenses. The only problem with that is that their own defense was getting dominated at a higher rate. In 2016 specifically, the team ranked fifth in the country in scoring offense, but they had the last-ranked scoring defense.

Texas Tech finished that year at 5-7 and didn't qualify for a bowl game.

Fast forward to the following offseason in 2017 at Big 12 Media Days and a reporter had some things to get off his chest during Kliff Kingsbury's time at the podium.

To set the scene even further, Kingsbury was already a bit miffed because whoever was running the sound at the 2017 event played Justin Beiber as Kingsbury was announced to the media and left it on so long they had to be told to cut the music. Kingsbury, who hadn't prepared to make an opening statement used the time to ask what the deal was.

After the Bieber setback, the Kingsbury session was going well, until a reporter just had to get a few things off his chest. I couldn't find the video, but here's a transcript of the most epic media day question of all-time?

Reporter: You’re a fine coach. It’s a great conference, great school, all-world offense. I figure there may be 5,000 seniors who start on defense in Texas a year. You recruit from other states. Why can’t you get 10, 15, or 20 who can hold your opponents to 30 points or less a game?

Kingsbury: That’s a great question. I wish I had the answer (laughter). Like I said, that’s something we work on. We haven’t been good enough defensively, and we’ll continue to try and recruit the right players and develop them and get better.

The question is valid. In fact, I'm sure Kirby Hocutt was asking similar questions during the 2016, 17, and 18 seasons before ultimately parting ways with Kingsbury. The most radical part of the question isn't that it was asked, it's that it was asked at media days which are notoriously filled with creampuff answers and coach speak responses.

That reporter though did not hold back. At all.
