I love showing off my tattoos on my arms, but it's something I've shied away from in the past because of excessive fat between my elbow and shoulder — bat wings, if you will. It's something many women in my family have and I was so excited to learn that CoolSculpting can target the problem with a pain-free, easy procedure that has no downtime.

I recently had my first procedure with Dr. Roberta Beals at Lubbock Healthy Skin Clinic and, of course, we filmed it so you could see exactly what it entails. I was propped up with the CoolSculpting wand pressed against my skin for about 30 minutes on each arm. They applied a gel (that looks like a face mask to me) to protect my skin during the procedure; there was absolutely no concern the process would affect my tattoos at all.

I felt a coolness as the machine froze and killed the fat cells, and there was only a slight stinging when Dr. Beals massaged my arm afterward. She likened the massage to crumbling a frozen piece of butter; the pressure from the massage helped break up those fat cells, which will be absorbed naturally over the next few weeks. There was a little mild numbness in the area for a few days afterward.

Many patients achieve the results they want in just one session, but I was looking for a more dramatic reduction, so I'm going back for a second treatment 30 days after the first one. I'll follow that up with a skin-tightening treatment to ensure there are no "wings" left in the "bat wing" area.

CoolSculpting also can remove excess fat in the chin, love handles, thighs and more.

I was so pleased with my CoolSculpting experience from start to finish. Dr. Beals is extraordinarily knowledgeable, friendly and just fun to be around. She explained the procedure thoroughly in a way I could understand. Lubbock Healthy Skin Clinic does everything they can to keep you comfortable and looking great.
