Monday evening, Shallowater ISD officially announced the hiring of a new athletic director/football head coach for Shallowater High School.

Rodney Vincent's hiring was approved by the Shallowater ISD Board of Trustees. Coach Vincent comes to Shallowater after previously serving as Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Head Coach for 13 years at Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park ISD.

Shallowater ISD officials note that Vincent led the Vista Ridge Rangers to numerous playoff appearances, several top ten finishes for the Lone Star Cup, and a part of the high school when it grew from a 4A school to a 6A school.

Shallowater ISD Superintendent Dr. Anita Hebert noted, “Coach Vincent rose to the top of the pool of 32 high quality applicants through his established leadership and community building as well as his successful experience in tough competition.”

Coach Vincent grew up in Vernon, Texas, and he played on a 3A State Championship team, earning All-State honors as a linebacker. After graduating from Vernon he played college football at both Eastern New Mexico University and the University of Central Arkansas.

Vincent's coaching career began at Navasota High School (in the Houston area) and then continued at Round Rock Westwood. He then moved to Austin to become the Football Head Coach at Stephen F. Austin High School, and then moved on to the aforementioned Vista Ridge High School.

After being officially hired, Vincent said, “My family and I would like to thank Dr. Hebert and the Board of Trustees for the incredible opportunity to serve the student athletes of Shallowater ISD as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. We are excited to build on the success of Shallowater ISD and make this the best experience possible for our student athletes and community. We want to establish a unified athletic program built on principles, loyalty, and trust that administration, students, faculty, and the community will be proud of. Go Mustangs. Go Fillies!”

The past two seasons, Shallowater has played football in UIL Class 3A, Division I. Their district opponents have been: Brownfield, Denver City, Kermit, Lamesa, and Slaton. The UIL will conduct its biennial realignment for 2022 & 2023 in February 2022.
