Lubbock police arrested a woman for child abandonment after her 3-year-old daughter was found alone near the family's cockroach-infested apartment.

Shauna Lee Bennett (42) was arrested and charged with child abandonment Saturday (Feb. 27) after officers called to her home on Waco Ave. discovered her daughter unsupervised, reports Everything Lubbock. The young girl was reportedly covered in filth and red bumps.

According to the police report, an officer who responded to the call was "overwhelmed" by what he discovered inside the apartment.

"There were piles of dirty and moldy dishes on the counter, stove, and sink," the officer wrote, adding: "There was trash on the floor and counter. There were cockroaches absolutely everywhere. The kitchen was in no way sanitary or functional."

Shockingly, the young girl reportedly told the officer: "I'm hungry. I need a beer."

The girl was placed with CPS. Bennett was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and is being held on a $15,000 bond.
