Legendary women's basketball player and Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes is coming back to her alma mater.

According to Texas Tech University, Swoopes' role as Director of Player Development "will focus on creating and implementing a plan to help develop each student-athlete personally, academically and athletically."

"I couldn't be more excited about joining Texas Tech and the Lady Raider program. I am very grateful to Coach Whitaker for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the players and staff," Swoopes said (via Texas Tech University press release).

Swoopes will interact with many facets of Texas Tech Athletics and help coaches create strategies for games, the school explained. Fans can also expect to hear the legendary Lady Raider on televised games as the color analyst.

"I am thrilled to welcome Sheryl back to Texas Tech as our program's Director of Player Development," said Texas Tech Women's Basketball coach Candi Whitaker. "She brings a wealth of experience playing at the highest level and will be an outstanding resource for our student-athletes. Sheryl's passion for our program and for impacting young players will be extremely beneficial for our continued growth. She is a fantastic addition to our staff."

Swoopes played for the Lady Raiders from 1991-1993 and set numerous school records during her career, including all-time single season scoring. She went on to win three gold medals in the Olympics as part of Team USA. In 2016, Swoopes became the first Texas Tech player ever to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. She has also been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
