Tuesday evening (August 11th), the South Plains Fair announced a major change for this year's fair.

"It is with a sad heart that this year’s Fair will have no Coliseum shows," said Jennifer Wallace general manager of the South Plains Fair. Wallace told KFYO News the cancellation of the music concerts are in order to stay compliant with the City of Lubbock's COVID-19 guidelines.

The fair's website has a short notice on its previously filled coliseums show web page that now reads: "Free show concerts at the Fair Park Coliseum have been cancelled for 2020."

Mandisa, La Mafia, Tone Loc with Tag Team and Casey Donahew were scheduled to play this year's fair before the shows were called off.

The South Plains Fair will otherwise continue as previously scheduled, running from September 25th to October 3rd, 2020.

"There are still tons of exciting things to do with your family this year at the Fair," Wallace said. "Tons of new rides, concessions, and vendors. And don’t forget about all the free entertainment like Rock-It The 9' foot Robot, the Stilt Walkers, Magician Ron Diamond, The Groovy Guy and new for 2020: Porkchop Revue with amazing pigs that do tricks, Dan Dan The Farmer Man, The Ag Gameshow, and an amazing BMX show."

South Plains Fair officials note that there will be areas within the fairgrounds that patrons can sanitize themselves, and patrons will be required to wear masks. The South Plains Fair will also follow State of Texas guidelines concerning sanitizing common use areas.
