Have any spare change laying around? Think about how fast spare change can add up over time just in your own home. Now take that idea and expand it to 28 schools across the South Plains and just think how much money can be raised.

That was the idea behind the "Miracles Pennies Campaign" benefitting the UMC Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network. Students at area schools were asked to bring spare change for two weeks during the spring semester. Students also participated in contests, games, and dress-up days.

All together, that spare change added up to $34,473.56. Here's how each school did.

The following was raised at each participating school.

-       Amherst High School $1,512.09

-       Coahoma ISD $7,704.25

-       Coronado High School $916.69

-       Frenship Heritage Middle School $857.14

-       Frenship High School $1,169.50

-       Frenship Middle School $435.10

-       Frenship Oak Ridge Elementary $552.43

-       Frenship 9th Grade Center $4,017.33

-       Idalou Elementary School $2,596.78

-       Idalou Middle School $271.45

-       Lamesa High School $684.48

-       Levelland High School $2,035.44

-       Lubbock-Cooper High School $916.69

-       Lubbock-Cooper Middle School $142.00

-       Lubbock-Cooper Laura Bush Middle School $2,000.00

-       Monterey High School  $1,439.00

-       Ropesville Elementary $292.77

-       Ropesville Secondary School $246.61

-       Shallowater Elementary School $1,503.91

-       Shallowater High School $500.00

-       Shallowater Intermediate School $2,394.46

-       Shallowater Middle School $500.00

-       Slaton Cathelene Thomas Elementary $925.44

-       Slaton Jr. High School $860.00

Not bad for a little spare change found around the house and saved from purchases throughout the week. The great part is that the money raised will stay in our area and benefit kids at UMC Children's Hospital. UMC has been a partner of the Children's Miracle Network for over 37 years. That relationship has benefited kids in both West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

Congratulations to all the students at our local schools who participated.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
