United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia was telling us all about the benefits of strawberries — they are rich in Vitamin C, manganese, and magnesium and are good for your heart, eyes, and digestive system.

And you can get strawberries at great prices now since we're entering the prime of berry season. Eaten plain, strawberries have just 12 grams of carbs per cup, but they also pair well with salads, chicken, salmon and so much more.

Here are some ideas from Garcia and her team for incorporating strawberries into your diet and your family's diet:

1) Substitute strawberry slices for jelly on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It will taste great and you won't miss all the sugar in the jelly.

2) Stash them away for a healthy snack, especially for student-athletes. Family meal-planning can be intense, but adding sports into the mix complicates it even more. Strawberries are a great, healthy option for fueling your young athlete. Click here for more ideas from Happy + Nourished, a blog from Garcia's team.

3) Try different salad options. For example, here's a red, white and blue-themed kale salad recipe, and here's a strawberry watermelon basil salad recipe.

4) Get fancy. Try strawberry biscuits with honey thyme compound butter or festive flag toast. Or puree strawberries and add them to a bubbly drink.

5) Use strawberries to help stay hydrated. Not only are strawberries high in water content, but they are great for flavoring water. Click here to learn more, including how good hydration can boost your immune system.
