"Mom, I'm hungry! Can I have a snack?"

"Dad, when's dinner? I'm starving!"

Now that the kids are home from school for the summer, so many of us are adjusting our grocery shopping and meal planning to feed their incessant appetite for snacks. And let's be honest, adults enjoy a few snacks between meals, especially when the sun's out.

United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia recently shared with us some healthy snack ideas:

1) Slice up a watermelon. It literally tastes like summer and it has a high water content, so it helps rehydrate, too.

2) Keep a bowl of fresh fruit on the counter. That way, the kids don't have to ask you about a snack, and adults can grab it too instead of digging through the pantry for something less nutritious.

3) Make Sunbutter Cheerios Bars. This recipe incorporates a spread made of sunflower seeds, which makes it a great option for those with nut allergies, too. Grab the recipe here from the Happy + Nourished blog by Garcia's team.

4) Homemade frozen yogurt. Grab your favorite fruit, popsicle sticks, and small paper cups for a cool DIY treat. If you want to get a little fancier, try Fresh Fruity Yogurt Bark. If you need no-prep options, frozen Kind bars and low-sugar popsicles straight from the grocery store are good, too.

5) Speaking of no-prep options ... Garcia and her team have a list of healthy snacks you can buy in resealable bags. Read it here.
