In the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, two Lubbock eateries are thinking outside the box to serve the public.
Teddy Jack's and Ike's Woodfire Grill are temporarily offering a drive-up market of sorts.
Matt Jordan, who owns both restaurants, told KFYO News that the idea was sparked by a chat with his area director, Reed McCellan.
Reed suggested that since the restaurants are not operating at full capacity, we make food that would otherwise be sitting on our shelves going to waste available to customers, Jordan said. That includes chicken, hamburger meat, bacon, eggs, potatoes and rice.
"We've had people who are just happy they have this option available to them," said Jordan.
Both restaurants' curbside/takeout options still comprise the bulk of business, however. "If we see we're not moving much of [the food] anymore, we'll probably start to back away from it," said Jordan, who added that Lubbock's grocery stores are doing a good job keeping up with the higher-than-usual demand.
Teddy Jack's, in addition to market options, has a new carry-out/delivery menu, which includes family-style meals. You can order online here or by phone: (806) 698-6897.
Ike's Woodfire Grill's market is also open at 4414 82nd Street. Customers are encouraged to call ahead at: (806) 368-8036.
