On Thursday, Mar. 19th, 2020, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order that immediately limits social gatherings to 10 people or less for at least two weeks.

Governor Abbott made the announcement during a press conference at the state capitol in Austin. The executive order, scheduled to go into effect Friday, March 20th at midnight, effectively closes all restaurants, bars, schools, and gyms in the state of Texas until at least April 3rd, 2020. Drive-thru, take-out and delivery services are still available.

The executive order also bans most people from visiting nursing homes, with a few exceptions.

Many schools in Lubbock and the Souths Plains area, including Texas Tech University, have extended Spring Break through March 27th. However, this new executive order may extend that even further through Friday, April 3rd.

The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott is partnering with Nexstar Broadcasting to host a virtual town hall meeting Thursday, March 19th, at 7 p.m. The one-hour town hall will once again be on the issue of the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to news outlets, the town hall will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session headed by Robert Hadlock, a TV news anchor at KXAN-TV in Austin.

Then15-minute Q&A will then be followed by a 45-minute Q&A session, with questions asked by Texans. If you have a question you want answered during the Q&A, include the tag #AskAbbott in a social media post (like Facebook or Twitter) to have it seen and considered.

In Lubbock County, you can watch Governor Abbott’s live stream Thursday at 7 p.m. on KAMC-TC (ABC).
