Last night in a Texas high school football game a player committed a personal foul by roughing the passer. While he was being assessed the penalty the player had words with the official. During the conversation with the official Emmanuel Duron, the player in question, said some magic words to the official and got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected from the game.

Duron was not pleased with the official's assessment and was visibly upset on the sideline. That led to this incident:

By the video clip here and the context of him just being tossed from the game, you don't have to be a detective to know Duron committed an assault on the white hat because of the words their shared and the ejection. The game suffered a long delay while the official, 59-year-old Fred Gracia, struggled to recover from the hit. They brought out a cart, but Garcia eventually walked off the field under his own power and was checked for a shoulder injury and concussion symptoms according to themonitor.com.

“Hard to see Duron, a senior, playing another game for the Bobcats — win or lose — after that incident”

I don't know much about Andrew McCulloch so I'm not going to slam him here, but you think?! Hard to see how Duron doesn’t get criminally charged after that! Why was he not taken off the field in cuffs? There's definitely intent to injure there. It's a blindside hit outside of the whistles!

Edinburg would end up beating PSJA 35-21, but they won't be moving on in the playoffs.

“The district has decided to remove the Edinburg High School football team from the playoffs after an unexpected incident involving a student that occurred during a football game on December 3, 2020. We extend a sincere apology to the referee and his family. On behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees and administration, we apologize to the athletes, staff, and our school community,” the Edinburg LISD said in a written statement.

I don't know about punishing the entire team because of one knucklehead, but this is definitely a message to the rest of the UIL that you can't assault a referee and get away with it. There are real-life consequences to real-life mistakes.
