Texas Tech Adds Familiar Depth to the QB Room

After Henry Colombi served as Utah State's primary backup quarterback behind Jordan Love for two seasons, he's leaving the Aggies before he gets his shot as the starter.

As a 6'2", 205-pound student-athlete from Hollywood, Florida, Colombi made 13 appearances in two seasons with the Aggies. He was considered the heir apparent for NFL-bound Jordan Love’s quarterback job. Overall, Colombi had 460 yards and two touchdowns passing, while also rushing for a pair of scores and 139 yards.

To the surprise of many Colombi entered the transfer portal after former Utah Utes quarterback Jason Shelly joined the Aggies.

Now, according to Colombi's twitter feed, he's rejoining his ex-head coach Matt Wells at Texas Tech.

The move makes sense for Texas Tech and the depth of their quarterback room which now stands at Alan Bowman and Maverick McIvor at the moment. Freshman Donovan Smith will join the team soon and now Henry Colombi. There's no question that the Red Raiders have struggled with injuries to the quarterback position mightily in the last several seasons with Alan Bowman, McLane Carter, and Jett Duffey all missing games due to injury.

Colombi won't miss a beat with the Red Raiders in fall camp as he already knows the playbook that Matt Wells and David Yost run, it's the same as his freshman season at Utah State. Colombi has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Out of high school, Colombi chose Matt Wells and Utah State over offers from Arkansas, Iowa State, and Temple among others.
