Lubbock Shelter Urgently Needs 25 Turkeys for Thanksgiving
As Thanksgiving approaches, Women’s Protective Services of Lubbock is reaching out to the community with an urgent request that hits close to home. The organization--one many in the Hub City know well for its year-round work supporting survivors of domestic violence--is asking Lubbock residents to help provide holiday meals for the women and families currently staying at the shelter.

This time of year can be especially tough for those who’ve had to leave everything behind. WPS leaders say that something as simple as a warm Thanksgiving dinner can make an enormous difference in restoring comfort, routine, and hope. Right now, the shelter is specifically requesting 25 frozen turkeys to make sure every family in their care has the chance to enjoy a traditional holiday meal.
Why These Donations Matter So Much in Lubbock
Women’s Protective Services has long been a vital lifeline here in Lubbock. Their shelter provides safety, resources, and support at moments when families need stability more than ever. While food drives and holiday giving are common this time of year, WPS emphasizes that a turkey donation isn’t just about putting something on a plate--it’s about restoring a sense of normalcy during a season that can feel anything but normal.

Local support is the heartbeat of what keeps WPS going. Individuals, businesses, church groups, and community organizations all play key roles. That same West Texas spirit that rallies during tough times is exactly what helps families in crisis rebuild their lives.
And if you’ve lived here long enough, you know this: Lubbock always shows up when someone needs a hand.
