The City of Lubbock Commits to Feeding Kids and Seniors This Summer
The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the South Plains Food Bank to provide kids 18 and under a free meal this summer.
Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m., children will be given a free meal provided in take-away containers at a curbside pick-up. The child must be present to receive the meal.
The meals will be passed out at Hodges Community Center located at 4011 University Ave., Mae Simmons Community Center located at 2004 Oak Avenue and Maxey Community Center, found at 4020 30th Street.
The City of Lubbock will also be continuing the Senior Meal Program where seniors ages 60 and older can pick up a meal for a suggested donation of three dollars. Seniors that are currently enrolled and receiving transportation will be eligible for meal delivery. The meals will be provided in take-away containers for curbside pick-up. Completion of the proper paperwork is required for meal eligibility.
These meals will be passed out at the Lubbock Adult Activity Center at 2001 19th Street, the Copper Rawlings Adult Activity Center at 213 40th Street, Mae Simmons Adult Activity Center at 2004 Oak Avenue, Maggie Trejo Supercenter, located at 3200 Amherst Street, and the Homestead Adult Program at 5401 56th Street.
The City of Lubbock says that both programs are designed to provide a hot, nutritious lunch within city limits.
