New Details Surrounding a One-Vehicle Crash That Left 2 Dead in Lubbock
New information has been revealed concerning the deaths of two people from January 2021.
On January 7th, 28-year-old Brittany Gonzales, along with her cousins Joe and Jennifer Garza, were at Charley B's celebrating Jennifer's birthday. Jennifer had called someone else to come pick her up since she had been drinking, but when that person showed up, Gonzales told Jennifer to ride with her instead since they were going to the same place.
KAMC News reports that Jennifer agreed to ride with Gonzales, but the other person followed Gonzales to make sure they made it safe.
The other person was following up until 4th Street and Slide Road when Gonzales allegedly ran a red light. They say that afterwards, they ran over some debris in the roadway and got a flat tire, so she never saw Gonzales after that.
After being picked up by her mom, the other person was told that Jennifer, Joe and Gonzales never made it home.
Police were called to the crash in the 4600 block of 4th Street. According to the police report, Gonzales appeared to be intoxicated at the scene. Both Joe and Jennifer Garza died as a result of the crash.
It's reported that Gonzales was previously indicted in 2015 for possession of a controlled substance, but that case was dismissed in 2017 because she had completed a drug treatment program.
Gonzales was arrested before 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of East 2nd Place on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021.
