I don't know about you, but I was completely unaware that the Lubbock Police Department has a Homeless Outreach Team and that they are doing great things in our city.

It's good to know that our local police department has a team specifically to help Lubbock's homeless. Also known as HOT, the Homeless Outreach Team is there to help people in need. Often, the homeless people are just in a really low part of their lives and could use just a little push to get back on their feet. In small ways, that is exactly what the LPD Homeless Outreach Team does.

Like recently, when the team was acquired some donated bicycles to give to homeless people with jobs, but no transportation.

"We started talking to people and there's a number of homeless individuals who actually have jobs and the toughest part about having a job is transportation," LPD Homeless Outreach Team Officer Sergeant Steven Bergen said (quota via Everything Lubbock). "So as a team we kind of decided, hey how can we actually help these folks out and so bikes is what kind of came to mind."

They also recently donated pairs of boots to people who needed them for work.

Way to go, LPD and HOT! Making all of us better.
