About 5,000 homes across the city of Lubbock lost power due to damage caused by a thunderstorm and hail storm on Wednesday, May 20th.

Lubbock Power & Light started responding to outages at 7 p.m.

LP&L reported at 7:30 p.m. that in addition to outages caused by the storm, a car had struck an electrical pole on Quaker Avenue in North Lubbock. At 9:30 p.m., LP&L reported that most of the outages had been resolved.

In related news, in a meeting on Tuesday, May 19th, LP&L and the Electric Utility Board have agreed to delay disconnections until at least June 13th, 2020. That date could also be extended if necessary.

LP&L is also working on a 6-month repayment program for customers with deferred bills caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
