A public meeting will be held concerning a proposed project on U.S. 62/385 in the City of Seminole.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15th, 2021, at the Seminole Community Center, located at 801 N. Main Street in Seminole, Texas.

Individuals interested in the project are encouraged to attend in-person, but an online option is available as well. The public meeting is a way for citizens to hear from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) on their proposed plans to improve U.S. Highway 62/285 in Seminole, as well as give comments or ask questions.

The project came about due to traffic congestion at the intersection of U.S. 62/385/180. TxDOT is currently working to solve the problem by improving travel and reducing congestion. Two options have been proposed:

1. A One-Way Pair Option

This option consists of converting U.S. 62/385 into a northbound three-lane, one-way, and convert 2nd Street in Seminole into a southbound three-lane, one-way.

TxDOT says this option allows easier turning for semi-trucks. The affected road is approximately 3.16 miles long and would require 8.9 acres of new right of way, possibly impacting 17 properties. The cost of this option is $44 million.

2. Existing Rehab Option (No-Build Option)

This option would make no changes to the road, but makes improvements to the pavement, sidewalks and lighting. The cost of this option comes in at around $20 million.
