United Supermarkets' Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia was recently talking with us about great ways to take advantage of citrus season, and we know you'll love some of her ideas as much as we do.

Now's a great time to stock up on mandarin oranges (some people call these Cuties and Halos), lemons, limes, and all the variety of oranges. Not only are they a great source of Vitamin C, but citrus fruit is a great source of fiber, and they may contain compounds that reduce inflammation and increase the "good" cholesterol. Similarly, citrus fruit juices are often high in calories, but the fruit itself isn't, so it's a guilt-free way to get more of these important nutrients.

Here are some ideas for incorporating citrus into your routines:

1) Add citrus fruit slices to water. If you have a hard time drinking the recommended amount of water each day, this burst of flavor might make it easier to swallow.

2) Roast citrus fruit for a sweet topping for meat, desserts, or cereal. Check out instructions from Brenda and her team here.

3) Add it to yogurt or a salad for a burst of flavor. Try this citrus yogurt bowl, rise and shine citrus waffles, or orange chicken salad.

As a reminder, grapefruit can interact with some medications, so check with your doctor before consuming a lot of grapefruit.
