United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia was reminding us of some important ways consumers can make Earth-friendly choices at the grocery store. It's not something to think about just on Earth Day but all year round.

When it comes to shopping for seafood at any United Family location, look for the Responsible Choice logo, which now will appear on all Waterfront BISTRO and Open Nature products. This logo means the product meets the company's responsible seafood policy, which applies to fresh, frozen, and canned seafood, including sushi.

Similarly, United Supermarkets carries compostable sandwich bags and straws, as well as other products that can reduce your single-use plastic consumption. For more ideas, check out this article from Happy + Nourished, the blog from Garcia and her team.

Don't forget United Supermarkets has plants and fruit trees for sale in front of their stores. When Garcia's children were little, she'd have each one pick out a plant to care for throughout the season, using it as a fun lesson in gardening and responsibility. Of course, any fruit trees you plant now can provide fresh fruit for years to come, with proper care.
