Some time ago we told you about a Lubbock icon eyesore that had been left to disrepair and was nothing short of a blight on the community. You've all seen it at the corner of Highway 87 and FM 1585, the old Double T Discount Liquor Store and Day Spa.

We originally wrote about this black hole of despair last October when we were on our way out to Llano Estacado winery to get our dranky-drank on. At the time we thought that with all of the new development on FM 1585 the location would eventually be bulldozed and redeveloped into something that would actually drive traffic and create a little competition for the Stripes location directly across the street.

Well...

Nope.

The rat trap is still there in all its glory. And now, that corner of despair has claimed another victim.

The Stripes location that we had referred to has also been shuttered and closed, and appears to have a date with destiny as well.

I asked a few folks what could be happening down on that end of the Highway 87 strip, and the fact that the new Loop 88 is slated to go through there is one reason why so many businesses in that area are folding up their tents.

Yes, there does seem to be signs of progress in construction with the new Loop, but it looks to be years away.  That means that the gentleman seen in the picture below won't be interrupted during his mid-morning siesta anytime soon.

No, he's not dead. He lifted his leg at one point.

Bring out the bulldozers. It's time for a 2-for-1 special.
