Is It Time to Bulldoze This Abandoned Lubbock Drive-Thru Liquor Store?
If there's one big negative about our fair city, is that we do have more than our fair share of closed up businesses that are in serious need of remodeling or, quite simply, an exorcism.
This is one of those places.
Next to Hwy 87 on FM 1585 sits the former Double T Discount Liquor. You've all seen it. The former drive-thru liquor outlet that is now a mecca of expired tires, weeds, and feral cats.
The building looks as if The Walking Dead TV series was a documentary, with exposed wiring, rusted locks on the doors, and some major pothole action in the parking lot.
If I had walked around the back of this place, I would have expected Negan to blast me with his trusty baseball bat, Lucille.
Sticking my camera up to the door, the interior doesn't look TOO terrible...if you enjoy tuberculosis. Plus, I have no idea how old that TV on the counter night be. I'm pretty sure the last thing on that screen was a brand new episode of The Andy Griffith Show.
The entire time I was taking photos, I clearly felt like I wasn't alone, as if there were eyes on me the entire time. Turns out, I wasn't wrong. Just off to the right, next to what appeared to be another firetrap that perhaps doubled as offices, I noticed several feral cats just checking me out.
"I always feel like, somebody's watching meeeee!"
The feline caretakers paid rapt attention to my every move and only skittered away when I approached. They were the only signs of life at the site.
So, again, we have another eyesore that's in need of either a new owner, a bulldozer or a good coat of fire. It just makes an otherwise growing area look like crap.
