Wildfire in Yoakum County Forces Residents to Evacuate

A fire that began in North Lea County, New Mexico and spread to Yoakum County has forced residents to evacuate.
KAMC News reports the fire started at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29th. It was said to have a length of around 12 miles.
A dispatcher with Yoakum County said that multiple structures had been destroyed by the wildfire and that residents living in an area from the Cochran County Line to County Road 220 were asked to evacuate. As of 5:14 p.m., there was no immediate threat to the City of Plains.
A red flag warning was in effect for the South Plains, Rolling Plains and Texas Panhandle when the fire broke out., and NWS reported that fire control would be very difficult to impossible.
The Texas A&M Forest Service was reportedly sending resources from Childress to help with the fire in Yoakum County.
