Patty Jenkins Is ‘Very Interested’ in a ‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel
Over the past few weeks, we’ve quickly cycled through the various stages of superhero hype with Wonder Woman. First it was judging the trailers, then guessing at the potential box office, then responding to the initial buzz. And now, with fans and critics alike praising what Patty Jenkins and her team have put together, we can move to the final stage of the process: openly discussing the possibility of a sequel. Oh, those folks who haven’t seen the movie will catch up eventually. Right now it’s all about the next one.
In a recent conversation with Fandango (via /Film), Jenkins sat down to talk about Wonder Woman and some of the possible ideas for the next movie in the series. Here’s what Jenkins had to say about coming back for another Wonder Woman movie:
It’s definitely something I’m very, very, very interested in. I love what we’ve created and I love the team that I worked with doing it and these actors so much that, yeah, we’re all very excited to talk about continuing forward together.
You may say that there’s not a lot of story here — wouldn’t any successful director be interested in coming back for a second round? — but it’s good to see Jenkins express enthusiasm for a return. Making any film is itself a stressful process, but Wonder Woman has also been bogged down in a lot of rumors and speculation as to the direction of the Warner Bros. superhero franchise, not to mention those production rumors claiming that Jenkins’ film was a total mess. I mean, I’ve given up eating at some of my favorite restaurants just because they tweaked the menu slightly, and here’s Jenkins, ready to dive back into the fray on the most highly scrutinized movie franchise of all time? Here’s hoping that audiences reward her team for their efforts if it’s as good as the early buzz.
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017.
