Wounded Warriors Scale New Heights With the Heroes Project
Wounded warriors that may have lost a limb or suffered an injury while serving our county can find a renewed purpose in life and engage in physical activity. The Heroes Project is making sure of that, as it works to help combat-injured vets overcome their individual circumstances by climbing the highest peaks in the world. That’s not only a “feel good” mission but an incredibly badass one as well.
Actor Dean Winters of ‘Rescue Me,’ ‘Oz’ and ’30 Rock’ fame (though we probably all just know him as Mayhem) just launched a Wish via Causes on Facebook to support the organization. All funds raised will go toward THP’s upcoming Indonesia climb with U.S .Army Retired Sgt. Noah Galloway. He lost his left arm above the elbow and left leg above the knee in an IED attack in Yusafiah, Iraq. You can check out the Wish page here.
THP’s further mission is to improve the care and protection of our heroes through through individual support, community empowerment and systemic change. The Heroes Project has several initiatives, but few are as cool and as badass as climbing mountains, though. The goal is to take seven soldiers up seven summits, filming the journeys and using the footage to make a documentary to inspire other vets to do the same.
