The J. Geils Band was somewhat under the radar for mass audiences in the 70's, but broke out when they became one of the first 70's bands to embrace 'music television'...MTV.

Originally formed in Boston in the mid-60's, they called themselves 'Snoopy and the Sopwith Camels'. Thankfully, they would drop that name and start calling themselves the J. Geils Blues Band. After eventually dropping the 'Blues', they became simply the J. Geils Band.

Their hit 'Love Stinks' was the 85th video played on MTV's very first day of broadcast, August 1st 1981.
