A Tremendous Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Event Comes to Lubbock July 10th & 11th

Make plans for this, a tremendous wild horse and burro adoption event coming to Lubbock's Panhandle South Plains Fairgrounds (1012 Avenue A) on July 10th and 11th, courtesy of the Bureau of Land Management, according to a recent press release.

This very special event brings as many as 80 wild horses and burros here to Lubbock. These horses need our help. All of them need a good forever home. They can be wonderful, trainable, rideable companions for the whole family. Don't miss this terrific opportunity to find the horse you've always wanted. Fees start at just $25.

They ask that you bring your stock trailer so you can take your favorite horse or burro home. This event rolls out from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 10th, and continues Saturday morning, July 11th, from 8 a.m. to noon.

If you need some help to get started with your new horse there's a terrific Adoption Incentive Program available. You can earn $1,000 for adopting an animal. This program has helped many folks become successful adopters, according to the Bureau of Land Management website.

Here are some guidelines from BLM's press release:

BLM staff will approve applications onsite. To qualify to adopt, one must be at least 18 years old, with no record of animal abuse. Qualified homes must have a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space per animal, with access to food, water and shelter. A six-foot corral fence is required for adult horses; five feet for yearlings; and four-and-a-half feet for burros. All animals must be loaded in covered, stock-type trailers with swing gates and sturdy walls and floors. BLM staff will be on hand to assist with the short application process.
