Lubbock Chamber Honors Chancellor Mitchell At Texas Tech Luncheon
Here in Lubbock, we love a good send-off—and this one’s shaping up to be a big one.

State of the Texas Tech University System Luncheon
The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual State of the Texas Tech University System Luncheon, and this year’s event will carry extra meaning as it marks the final appearance by Chancellor Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D. before his planned retirement.
The luncheon—presented by FirstBank & Trust, a division of UMB Bank—is set for Tuesday, September 16th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center.
Each year, the Chamber hosts this event to spotlight how the Texas Tech University System (TTU System) is shaping the region’s economy, education, and workforce. According to recent data, the TTU System’s statewide economic impact reached $19.2 billion in 2024, with $5.5 billion directly impacting West Texas. Not to mention, the system supports more than 57,000 jobs across Texas, with 36,000 of those right here in the region.
The Panel Discussion
This year’s program will feature a panel discussion moderated by Chancellor Mitchell, joined by Texas Tech University President Dr. Lawrence Schovanec and TTUHSC President Dr. Lori Rice-Spearman. The trio will cover topics ranging from research and innovation to workforce development and the universities’ continued commitment to the community.

A Great Career
Since taking the reins in 2018, Chancellor Mitchell has overseen years of unprecedented growth and progress across the system’s five universities. His presence at this annual luncheon has become a favorite among local business leaders and educators.
“The State of the System Luncheon serves as a wonderful opportunity to join our friends and supporters in the local community,” Mitchell said. “I’m grateful to the Chamber and to the Lubbock community for its passionate support.”
Tables of 8 are available for $500, and individual tickets are $40 for Chamber members or $50 for non-members. You’ll want to reserve your spot by September 5th at lubbockchamber.com/ttu-state-of-the-system.
