Lubbock Congressman Reacts to the Death of Charlie Kirk
The news out of Utah Valley on Wednesday rocked the political world, and folks here in West Texas are reacting too. Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk has died after a tragic shooting at one of his events. He was just 31 years old.

Arrington’s Statement from Washington, D.C.
House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) released a heartfelt statement following the tragedy.
“What happened to Charlie Kirk is horribly sad and deeply disturbing,” said Arrington. “He wasn’t just a fearless advocate for faith, family, and freedom, but, most importantly, a devoted husband, father, and son. Please join me in praying for Charlie’s family.”
Arrington represents Lubbock and much of West Texas in Congress, and his words echo what many across the country are feeling today.
What Happened in Utah
According to multiple reports, Kirk was speaking during Turning Point USA’s American Comeback Tour on the campus of Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck. Witnesses say he was rushed to Utah Valley Hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

At this time, police say no suspect has been identified. The news first broke when President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death on Truth Social around 4:40 p.m. CNN and other outlets later confirmed it.
Charlie Kirk’s Rise in Conservative Politics
Kirk first jumped onto the scene back in 2012, when he founded Turning Point USA at just 18 years old. The nonprofit focused on pushing conservative values in high schools and colleges, quickly gaining steam across the country.
By the mid-2010s, Kirk had become a household name in conservative circles. He toured college campuses, sparred with critics in public debates, and became a regular face on TV news shows and talk radio. He also built a large following through The Charlie Kirk Show podcast and radio program.
Supporters and Critics
Like many political figures, Kirk had plenty of supporters and plenty of critics. His fans saw him as a bold defender of faith, family, and freedom. Detractors accused him of spreading misinformation and stoking division.

Still, there’s no denying his impact. Kirk even made it into pop culture recently when South Park parodied him in its 27th season.
A Shocking Loss at 31
For his family, friends, and followers, Charlie Kirk’s death is more than a headline—it’s a personal heartbreak. As Congressman Arrington said, it’s important to remember not just the activist, but the husband, father, and son behind the public figure.
