The City of Lubbock Public Health Department is reporting "higher than usual" levels of activity with respiratory viruses as of late.

According to a press release from the Health Department, there is currently a surge and co-circulation of respiratory viruses other than COVID-19. Reports say that levels of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), flu and cold viruses are higher than they usually would be this time of the year. However, COVID-19 levels are remaining somewhat stable.

This increase in respiratory illness levels could potentially place stress on healthcare systems, who are experiencing higher than normal admissions for these types of illnesses as well.

The City of Lubbock Public Health Department is urging everyone to stay safe this holiday season by staying home if you're sick and to get vaccinated. Katherine Wells, the director of public health, said the following:

The measures that have been in place to help protect us from COVID can continue to help us during this flu season, including staying home if you’re sick and getting vaccinated. We want our community to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday while minimizing the spread of flu, RSV, and other respiratory illness.
