Former Red Raider Pleads No Contest to Misdemeanor in Virginia
According to the Baltimore Sun, Broderick Washington Jr. pleaded no contest last week to one misdemeanor at Arlington General District Court. Six other charges related to an incident in March were dropped after Washington completed alcohol evaluation and anger management classes.
Washington is currently with the Baltimore Ravens after being drafted in the fifth round in 2020. He played in eight games last season as a rookie and has impressed the Ravens so far this offseason during organized team activities. He also had a strong practice last week.
Baltimore is reportedly high on Washington as a rotational player on the defensive line, but might have to be without him for a game or two depending on how the NFL handles the situation.
Washington attended court last week to plead no contest to one count of a misdemeanor before Judge Daniel T. Lopez, who accepted Washington’s plea. The Baltimore Sun reports that acceptance comes with a conditional sentence of up to 12 months in jail and a fine up of to $25,000, which will be set aside until next June. Conditionally, Washington must complete 100 hours of community service and provide a restitution plan. The judge also barred Washington from returning to the scene of the original incident.
At Texas Tech University, Washington played from 2016 through 2019 after redshirting the 2015 season. He tallied more than 130 tackles and 7.5 sacks from the interior defensive line. Washington started every game but one in his final three seasons as a Red Raider. He was known as a leader for the team still has all the same potential at the NFL level with this situation now being put behind him.
