As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend many of us will be firing up grills and enjoying the outdoors along with any food that may come off that grill. And while burgers and hot dogs are always a holiday staple, Brenda Garcia with United Supermarkets joined me today to discuss a couple of healthier additions you can make to the grill.

Garcia suggested grilling corn or even asparagus as a healthy and tasty side to any cookout this weekend. Garcia said she likes to grill asparagus and then get smoked Gouda cheese dip from United Supermarkets and spread it on the asparagus.

Garcia also suggested trying grilled peaches and watermelon this weekend.

Speaking of watermelon, Garcia suggested cutting up pieces of watermelon, freezing them, and using them in water as ice cubes to keep your water cold and to give your water a little flavoring.
