United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia just told us something that blew our minds: The color of food tends to reveal which area of the body benefits from it.

For example, naturally red foods (strawberries, red peppers, tomatoes, beets, raspberries) contain anthocyanins, which help protect your veins and arteries against damage. Many red foods also have beta carotene, which helps maintain heart health as well as healthy eyes and cell growth.

Most of us know plenty of ways to prepare strawberries and tomatoes, but what about beets? Garcia and her team suggest trying pickled beets as a side. You also could roast beets and then puree them with chickpeas for a hummus. Or make chocolate beet cupcakes.
