In honor of National Hispanic Month in October, United Supermarkets is highlighting Hispanic-owned businesses and recipes that pay homage to Hispanic ingredients or backgrounds.

United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia was telling us about Siete Family Foods, which a Mexican-American family from South Texas founded with the goal of making grain-free Mexican foods. Garcia said avocado oil is a basis for many of their products, offering a good but distinct flavor. She particularly recommends their beans made with avocado oil, but the company also offers tortillas, taco shells, seasonings, and more.

Garcia and her team also will be sharing Hispanic recipes throughout the month on their blog, Happy + Nourished. Here are some of the ideas you can find already:

1) Lighten up guac: To reduce the fat in guacamole, why not substitute half the avocado with mashed peas? That will boost the protein and carbs in the dish, too.

2) Ranchero Nachos: A sheet-pan version of this staple that's also full of healthy veggies.

3) Plant-based Quesadillas: Pick up some Siete Refried Black Beans for this easy meal packed with fiber and protein.
