You'll find the devil in the details if you look close enough at this stretch of Texas farmland on Google Maps.

If you're like me and you enjoy mindlessly scrolling through Google Earth to see how everything looks from up above, you tend to find a lot of unusual things. But this one takes the cake.

What It Is

Just outside Lubbock, Texas is the itty bitty farming community of Idalou. And somewhere along the service road west of Idalou is a curious sight.

There in a field, which has nothing else remarkable about it, is a giant star somehow embedded in it. The star could easily be someone's idea of a pentagram.

So is this a sign of creativity or a sign of something darker?

What Is This Symbol?

A pentagram is described as a five-pointed star, usually drawn by using one continuous line of five straight segments. This was news to me, as I thought the star also had to have a circle around it to make it a pentagram, but those are Wiccan pentagrams. Pentagrams are often considered Satanic and tend to creep some people out.

It doesn't take much to make out the shape and the picture a least shows a downward-pointing orientation which is supposed to resemble a goat head. I am personally not into the supernatural, but that doesn't mean that people who are don't creep me out a bit.

Questions, Questions, and More Questions.

I was curious about the pentagram and took to facebook to see if anyone else had located the bird's-eye anomaly.

I was able to locate a post in the group, Google Earth, Structures, and Anomalies, but alas. There was no further information to go along with the post.

So what do you think, is this just a farmer having fun, a tree-hugging Wiccan exercising their freedom of religion, or something far more sinister?

One thing I do know is that It's a little spooky to see the most recent view on Google Earth. There was clearly a fire in the area and the immediate area seems to have been scorched.....except for the pentagram.
