Is Another National Restaurant Chain About to Open Its Doors in West Texas?
Oh what, oh WHAT could possibly be coming to West Texas?
Yes, they are a chain with multiple locations in several major Texas cities. Have you guessed yet?
That's right...it's MARCO'S PIZZA!
(What, were you thinking something else? Whatever could have caused that?)
Signage went up over the weekend at what will be Lubbock's first Marco's Pizza location on 34th Street, just east of Milwaukee Ave. They'll be located in the same shopping center as a Rise N Shine Donuts and Linda's Asian Cafe.
Marco's, a national chain that was founded in Ohio in 1978, boasts over 1,000 locations nationwide. Marco's seems to be ubiquitous in some of the more populated areas of Texas, with over 150 locations. However, in the Lone Star State they have not yet made it west of Wichita Falls, except for three locations in El Paso.
A quick look at the Marco's Pizza website does not show any new locations planned as of yet in Lubbock, Amarillo or Odessa/Midland, but I'd suspect those may be coming soon. I'd be shocked if there wasn't a location already in the works near the Texas Tech campus, but I haven't driven over there lately. (Yeah, I'm like super-thorough in my investigation.)
Marco's is no a slouch in the pizza game. They were recently ranked no. 2 in the Pizza category on Entrepreneur Magazine's 2020 "Franchise 500" ranking, according to the pizza chain's website.
I can't speculate on actual pizza, but they appear to be using the neighborhood pizzeria model, with carryout, dine-in and delivery options. This will make them a serious competitor for Lubbock's tried-and-true pizza options. I'm actually looking forward to their arrival, as this first location is less than 3 minutes from my house.
And, yes, I am STILL fanboy-ing for an In-N-Out Burger here. Someday...someday.
