Learn Salsa, Swing, Two Step, and More at These Lubbock Dance Classes
If you’re looking for something to do on the weekends, want to learn a new talent, or just love to dance, you’re in the right place.
Lubbock is home to a small but vibrant dance community that has been hosting classes for years. The group was formed by a group of Ballroom, Swing, and Latin dancers that simply loved to dance and wanted to share that love with Lubbock. So, they started a group called Social Dance Lubbock.
This group started as a way to introduce vintage swing dancing to Lubbock with a style known as Lindy Hop. They began teaching lessons every other Saturday at the YWCA (6204 Elgin Ave) and those lessons have continued for several years. While the group started with their ‘Saturday Swingouts’, they have now started teaching other styles of dance like Swing, Salsa, Two Step, and more.
The lessons take place every second and fourth Saturday of the month, and the style of dance rotates after every two lessons. Whether you are an experienced dancer, or you’ve always wanted to learn, they are welcoming to everyone. You also don’t need to worry about having a partner, because they will partner you up with someone if you need it.
I spoke with one of the instructors and they said, “We're here to get your foot in the door and get you out on the floor! We will get you a stable foundation so you can look good out dancing and have enough knowledge to grow and pick up things.”
The class always begins at 6:00 and is followed up with a dance party so you can practice your new dance moves. There next class will be on June 25th and will be covering some popular line dances. Snacks and water are usually provided and the class costs $10 per person (cash only). You can find more information and stay updated on what dances they are teaching by following their official Instagram account or their official Facebook page @socialdancelubbock.
