A West Lubbock apartment complex caught fire around noon today, displacing 40 residents and causing the apartment’s roof to collapse.

The two-alarm fire was at Twin Oaks Apartment complex in the 5800 block of 22nd Street.

Firefighters were joined by residents as they attempted to extinguish the blaze.

One entire building of the complex was deemed completely destroyed.

Fire trucks caused traffic to back up on West Loop 289.

The Salvation Army, Red Cross and local businesses and churches responded to the displaced residents, providing them with food and shelter during the evacuation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Volunteers are needed Saturday, January 22, to help organize donations for victims of yesterday’s apartment fire.

Hi Landon,

This is Laura Parker, I own My Friend's Closet and I closed the store last night, I have inventory left over and Salvation Army is supposed to come tomorrow, but I am here today and tomorrow, if any of the fire victims need clothing today.  I have ladies shoes left over from Famous Brand Shoes, and a few tween sizes, a few junior sizes, but they are welcomed to come in and get anything they need.  Please just have them call me at 771-5713 at the store, and 786-7164 is my cell.  Thank you!

Thanks for your help, Laura!
