A Woody's Brick Oven and Grill delivery driver fell seven floors in a Raider Park elevator on Saturday, September 18th, 2021.

After the seven-floor drop, the elevator’s emergency breaks kicked in and stopped the elevator from smashing into the ground floor by just three feet.

The delivery man was not injured and managed to get out of the elevator safely once Lubbock firefighters arrived to open the elevator doors.

While the man was stuck in the elevator, he called his wife on Facetime and began screen recording the call. Woody’s posted the video on their Facebook page showing the first responders forcing open the elevator doors and allowing the delivery driver to safely exit the broken elevator.

At the end of the video, you can see a part of what looks like a work group chat talking about the situation. You can see messages explaining that they called 911 and first responders should be on their way.

Woody's explained in their Facebook post that the phone in the elevator was locked, and none of the buttons were working. Fortunately, the driver was not hurt, but just "a little frazzled," as the post states. They further explain that he is their late-night driver, so they called it a night after the incident.

People are speculating that the elevator's failure might have been caused by the 30-minute power outage that happened after the Texas Tech football game that night.

That could be a part of it, but I also know that those elevators have been pretty sketchy for a long time. I had some friend that lived at the 25Twenty apartment complex next to Raider Park, so I used those elevators when I would visit them. They were always quite beat up, and there were a lot of times that they weren’t running.

I know that everyone, especially the driver, is glad the elevator brakes kicked in when they did and no one got hurt. Hopefully, nothing like this will happen again.
