There are more details in the murder investigation of 26-year-old Kyera Jones that hint at a prolonged history of violence between the victim and the murder suspect.

According to LPD detectives, the man wanted for Jones’ murder, 57-year-old Winston Lee Caraway, is the man who also called police on Monday, Sept. 21st to report the location of her body.

Police say that Caraway told them she was already dead, but when police arrived at the scene, Kyera was still clinging to life after suffering a serious stab wound to the stomach. She was taken to a local hospital but did not survive the injury.

Caraway, who is believed to be homeless, turned himself into police on Wednesday, Sept. 23, after a warrant was issued for his arrest and he is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $300,000 bond.

Police believe Caraway stabbed Jones with a steak knife after he accused her of stealing cocaine from him. One witness to the crime reportedly told police that they heard Jones and Caraway arguing inside a residence before the stabbing.

LPD investigators found multiple pieces of evidence at the scene with blood on them, including a knife that they believe was likely the murder weapon. Police say there are also documented instances where they think Caraway tried to conceal evidence.

Caraway reportedly told police that he’s known Kyera for 4 years and that the two had both a drug-related relationship and an intimate one. Police say there are multiple past police reports that hint at a violent relationship.

In one instance dated August 17, 2019, police say Caraway chased Jones with a knife through a parking lot saying he was going to kill her. In another instance, Jones was accused by Caraway of trying to run him over with a car.
