The Hub City briefly went dark yesterday afternoon as a massive Haboob hit Lubbock.

What exactly is a Haboob and how do they happen? Basically, they happen when a storm collapses. When this downdraft, or "downburst", reaches the ground, dry, loose sand  is essentially blown up, creating a wall of sediment preceding the storm cloud.
